Intro
Foster or Adopt for Rochdale. . .
. . . YOU can make a real difference to a child!
Why do we need Foster Carers and Adopters
There are many reasons why children and young people cannot live with their own parents. Whether it be through illness in the family, neglect or abuse of the children, it is proven that children have greater life chances if brought up in the love and security of a family home. Foster Carers and Adopters provide this environment for children in care and say that although the role can be tough sometimes, the rewards they receive from knowing they have made a difference to those children are fantastic. These rewards could be yours.
Whether you can commit to becoming a 'Forever Family' for a child through Adoption or Fostering, or have the time to Foster part time only, we'd like to hear from you. There are many ways you can become involved.
Did you know that Foster Carers receive payment for their role?
As a Foster Carer you will receive generous Fostering Allowances. Allowances increase as you become more experienced and undertake training to NVQ level 3 in ‘Caring for Children'. Some carers earn up to £25000 per year tax free - it all depends on the ages and numbers of children living with you. It is possible to earn more than this though you may be taxed.
There’s lots of training and support.
Being a Foster Carer or Adopter can be difficult - we understand this and have put lots of support systems in place. To help overcome the difficulties we will give a you a range of help and support including:
- Initial training to help you prepare for Fostering or Adoption
- Regular training whilst children are placed with you
- A Social Worker who links with you to offer advice, support and guidance.
- An active local Foster Care Association and Adoption Support Group where you can meet other Foster Carers and Adopters.
- Child Psychology support
- Educational support
- Training to NVQ level 3
- Membership of ‘The Fostering Network’ – foster carers own national organisation.
