Vote for your NHS health hero

Date published: 27/11/2008

People living in the Rochdale Borough are being asked to nominate their local heroes in a new award for NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (NHS HMR).

The ‘Heart of Local Health’ award, sponsored by Heywood’s twin German town Peine, has been developed to recognise the difference NHS workers make to the health of the borough. It could be a team as a whole or an individual that has provided outstanding service or care. As long as they work for or in association with NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale they can be nominated.

This includes district and community nursing staff, health visitors, mental health workers, therapists (such as physiotherapists, podiatrists, speech and language therapists), administrative staff such as receptionists, managerial staff such as PALS, complaints or public health, staff working alongside NHS HMR such as GPs, dentists, pharmacists and opticians.

The winner will be selected by a panel of judges from the local Patients Council and the Trust. The Heart of Local Health award will be presented at a ceremony on 5 February as part of the Trust’s annual staff awards, Going for Gold.

John Pierce, Chairman of NHS HMR, said: “We receive a number of letters and emails from patients and the public wanting to show their gratitude for the excellent care or service they receive from our staff. The Heart of Local Health Award will allow us to publicly thank and reward exceptional staff members, highlighting the good work they do and inspiring others to do the same.”

The nomination form is available online from www.hmr.nhs.uk. Alternatively, contact the awards team on 01706 652824 or email: communications@hmrpct.nhs.uk.
