'The Telephone' & 'Dido and Aeneas'
Chimera is presenting two operas of complete contrast in time and style, but both exploring the timeless delights of love and affection - 'The Telephone' by Gian Menotti and 'Dido & Aeneas' by Henry Purcell - Novello Edition.
‘The Telephone’ – A one-act opera comedy for two singers. Ben is trying to ask Lucy to marry him but the telephone – an awkward third party in the relationship - is always ringing at the crucial time, and the clueless Lucy is lost in endless chatter. ‘Dido and Aeneas’ – When Aeneas and his crew are shipwrecked in Carthage, he and Dido, the Queen of Carthage, fall in love.
